Mayonnaise Hair Treatment

Straightening and coloring simultaneously tortures our hair, like a lot. I made this mistake and has been left with dry hair for years. *crying* I've tried salon treatments to revive my brittle hair and they were okay but it's not budget friendly. *crying again* That's when I started to look for cheaper alternatives and the more natural, the better.

In this age when spas and expensive treatments rule the hair care industry, mayonnaise hair treatment is not only inexpensive but natural and safe too. Mayonnaise contains oils, eggs and other ingredients that nourish the hair. If your goal is softer, shinier, smoother feeling hair then mayonnaise might be a good match for you. Besides, Cameron Diaz swears by this.

How to make a Mayonnaise Hair Treatment:

1. Choose a regular, full-fat mayonnaise because it has all the ingredients that nourish your hair and make it soft plus silky. Avoid mayonnaise that contain extra flavoring of herbs and spices because it may do more harm than good to your hair. If you can, go for an all-natural, organic mayonnaise because this type typically contains olive oil. It's available in any grocery store.

2. Use approximately 1/2 cup of mayo, more or less depending on the length of your hair. Don't use more than needed because it might be difficult to wash it all out. Apply mayonnaise to freshly cleansed, damp hair as you would with any conditioner. Focus on the ends since it's the oldest part of the hair. Avoid the roots if you have thin or fine hair (like myself). You may want to use a wide-tooth comb to evenly distribute the mayo onto your hair.

3. Let the mayo sit from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on how much conditioning your hair needs or how much time that you have. I like to leave it overnight and wash it the following morning. Use a shower cap or any plastic bag to cover your hair; this will trap your body heat against your head and help the mayonnaise to get its work done of deep conditioning your hair.

4. Remove the cover and rinse your hair with warm water and a gentle shampoo (I use a baby shampoo). If you feel that there's still some residue, you can cleanse again. Your hair should feel soft, not oily.

5. You can do this once a week or once a month. It all depends, again, on how much deep conditioning your hair needs.

No matter how healthy your hair is, we all need some timely caring and pampering for it.

How To Be Organized...When You're Not

Credit: Google

I struggled with disorganization growing up and when I was finally a bit matured, I felt tired of it. I had appointments that I forgot, tasks undone and I was all over the place. It was embarrassing! So, one day, I hopped on the computer and researched about how to be organized. Ahhhhhhh the wonders of the Internet! Little by little, I incorporated tips that I found fit for my lifestyle and now I'm sharing them with you.

Have a planner. A planner is especially useful if you have a lot of appointments and your days are varied that you have trouble keeping track of your schedule. I started making use of a planner about two years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've made. Whenever an appointment has been set, I immediately write it on my planner. Yes, I bring it around with me. It has saved me from disappointed family and friends because I forgot to show up in their invitations, added some money in my stash for doing something, made me feel in control of what's going on in my life etc. It's every mom, dad, professional, student, business owner's best friend!

My 2016 Planner. Bought from National Bookstore for 250php

It's simple. It also has an extra page to write notes on.

A little side note, I have been gifting myself with a planner every Christmas since I started using it. :)

Make a To Do list. To Do lists are writing down little things that you need to do during the day. It could be things like laundry, take the dogs out for a walk, cook Adobo for dinner. Try to keep the items small in number to avoid overwhelming yourself. Make one or two items as things that you must absolutely do that day, and pursue those tasks relentlessly until you get them done. Once you finish doing an item, cross it off your list and watch yourself feel proud of accomplishing something.

Setting a time frame. Having this is a good way to keep you from procrastination. Organized people don't waste time, they recognize that keeping things organized goes hand in hand with staying productive.

Keep a notepad with you. ALL. THE. TIME. I always carry with me a notepad where I can jot down all my 'cluttered' ideas on something, especially those that I'm working on. I say 'cluttered' because I don't sift them through, I just immediately write them down as I get them. When I'm not busy that day, I whip out my notepad and analyze those ideas. This is especially helpful for someone whose career is on the creative industry.

Have a home for everything. It's easy to get lost if you don't have a home. Have organizers that you can purchase pretty much from any department store. You can have bins for your accessories, medicines, undergarments etc.

Label...label...label... In connection to having a home for everything, label them! It'll save you the time and hassle trying to figure out all the bins because you don't know which ones are for the toys, shoes or socks.

Declutter regularly. Practice the habit of putting stuff back to its proper place after using them. Find time each week or month to organize. Personally, I assess as to whether there's a need for me to declutter that week or not; if it's the latter, I can usually get away with a monthly decluttering. Find what works for you.

Delegate responsibilities. I hate to break it to you but we can't just do everything on our own. Well, it is heroic and astonishing if we could but we can't. A really organized life is not overfilled with responsibilities, meetings and deadlines. Learn to trust people with critical tasks in all areas of your life. Make sure that the person you appoint to do the task has all the necessary tools to do it.

Combine similar activities. Make all your phone calls at one time. Do all your errands at the same day. Pay all your bills at the same time. Do all shopping at one trip. Saves you time and energy!

Discipline. All the tips mentioned above are nothing without discipline. When you designate a task, follow through with it. Self-discipline does not mean being harsh toward yourself , or having a limited, restrictive lifestyle. It means self control---which is a sign of inner strength because you're able to control your actions, your reactions and yourself.

Start flexing your decision muscles with little things, and you'll soon find yourself more confident about taking action on stuff around your home, your school, your office, your business.

Do you have other tips on how to be organized? Please comment those below, I'd love to know more.

REVIEW: Naturacentials Deep Cleansing & Whitening Bar

If there's one soap that I religiously use it's the Naturacentials Deep Cleansing & Whitening Bar; I've used this for a year now and that alone would tell you how its performance is for me.

So do I need to write a review? My intro is already a strong statement.  Haha! :)

Kidding aside, of course I will write this review because I want my lovely readers to know more about why I got hooked with this soap.

Naturacentials Deep Cleansing & Whitening Bar is a product of Alliance in Motion Global or more commonly known as "Aim Global"--- one of the top Multi-Level Marketing companies in the Philippines.

CLAIMS:
Credit: Google

PACKAGING:
The bar soap is enveloped with a thin white paper and placed inside a box.

SCENT:
None

SIZE:
4.76 OZ

PRICE:
170php (Selling Price)

WHERE I BOUGHT:
Business Center Office Iloilo but you can buy from any distributor in your area.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
I use this for both my face and body since it's an all-natural ingredients soap. Apply as you would of any soap.

The black side is the Bamboo Charcoal; the orange side is the Lumin8 Derma Complex

WHAT I LIKE:
  • Honestly, I got hooked because of the cooling effect of this soap. It has Peppermint as an active ingredient and it just makes my bathing experience awesome (given the usual hot & humid temperature in the Philippines)!
  • All-natural ingredients; it's nice to shy away from exposing my body to chemicals.
  • I don't see any sign of skin ageing.
  • I don't sweat as much since using this soap, not unless I do a rigorous physical activity.
  • One bar soap lasts me more than a month of usage.
  • It's more affordable compared to soaps from other MLM companies in the Philippines.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
  • I actually don't consider this as something that I don't like but I'm not sure if I also like it, does that makes sense? Well, here it is. I don't see a noticeable whitening to my already fair skin. Now with this, my honest opinion is that, this product gives a remarkable result when it comes to whitening if you're not fair-skinned prior to using the soap.

MY RATING: 9/10

DISCLAIMER:
I am an Alliance In Motion Global distributor but the opinions expressed in this review are all honest-to-goodness. One of the reasons that I joined this company is because I was able to try this soap and I instantly fell in love with it!

Discard Your Prejudices On Thrift Shopping

Credit: Google

Before I had my very first thrift shopping experience, I thought that it was ridiculous to even do it! My speculation was it's for those who can't afford buying decent items in 'normal' stores--- yeah! The regal Leo woman. Try to Google the characteristics of people born under the astrology sign of Leo so you'll understand. Haha! :) Anyway, we're not rich (yet, Law of Attraction people) but we can somehow afford stuff to live comfortably for the most part, so thrift shopping did not really appeal to me at first. However, I got aunts and friends who thrift shop and they always get superb items and brands that I only know of ( well, dream about) but couldn't really get my hands on!

In a certain amount of time, I decided to join the bandwagon.

My first experience with thrift shopping wasn't awesome as I would have wanted it to be because the place was kind of nasty; but then again, stereotyping is not nice. With years of thrift shopping experience already, I can say that there are also stores that are pleasant. Explore your neighborhood. I'm sure that you'll find a place or two that you'll like.

And that musky, thrift clothes smell? Do not spend much time in a thrift store if you have an allergic reaction to smells or you just can't stand it. I suggest going to the shop well-armed; have a list of what you want to buy and immediately go to that section once you arrive. Also, it's a great way to save time if you're one of those busy bees.

Further more, thrift shopping is for EVERYONE! Normally, it's for people who can't afford much and for those who are in a tight budget (I got hooked with thrift shopping especially after becoming a mom, you know.. we got milk and diapers to prioritize) but hey, even the rich (at least here in the Philippines) are also venturing into this astonishing world! There are Filipino celebrities that buy clothes from thrift stores; one of which is Chynna Ortaleza and she revealed in one of her interviews that she and some of her celebrity friends turn to thrift stores whenever they have roles in TV shows or movies that require them to look classy and sosyal . According to her, they buy their furs and unique jackets, blazers, dresses at thrift shops.

I personally gave up my prejudices of thrift shopping because the benefits I got outweighed the fails. I can now have "new", at least on my closet, and several branded clothes with my 200php as opposed to buying brand new in 'normal' shops.

REVIEW: Celeteque Matte Moisturizer

Most Filipino women have oily skin and the humid temperature in the Philippines doesn't help at all! Being one of these women, I am always on the hunt for a face product that could lessen the sebum produced by my skin.

I found this Celeteque Dermoscience Matte Moisturizer at a Watson's branch in SM City Iloilo mall last year, however, I only used the product a couple of months ago.

We need to use a moisturizer to keep the moisture in the skin; which helps in making the skin healthy. Facial moisturizers can enhance the functioning of the stratum corneum, the uppermost layer of the skin. The stratum corneum is made up of fat, oil, and skin cells that help keep moisture in the skin. Once it's dry, brittle, or cracked, you've lost your shield and the skin is vulnerable to exposure from the outside and water evaporates from the dermis. You can get fissures on the skin, and infections can easily occur.

ACCORDING TO THE PACKAGING:

PACKAGING:
The moisturizer is contained in a plastic tube. Convenient.

CLAIMS:
SPF 30
UVA/UVB Protection
Dermatologist-tested
Non-Comedogenic (oil-free)
Hypo-allergenic

SCENT:
Subtle baby powdery scent.

SIZE:
50 ml

PRICE:
279php, if I remember it right.

WHERE I BOUGHT:
Watsons

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
Usual application of any facial moisturizer.

Manufacturing & Expiration Dates

Thick consistency

WHAT I LIKE:
  • It's non-comedogenic meaning it's oil-free.
  • It has UVA/UVB protection (sun protection).
  • No weird or strong scent.
  • The price is okay.
  • It has a manufacturing and expiration date at the packaging.
  • A little goes a long way.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
  • I picked this item up as soon as I saw the word "matte"; by this word, I'm expecting it to lessen the sebum production on my face but so far I didn't notice any difference. However, this is great for people who are looking for a moisturizer that's oil-free and doesn't rip your wallet.

MY RATING: 7/10

REVIEW: Glysolid Glycerin Cream

The feet are the most used and abused part of our body so they actually need some TLC. Recently, I noticed that the heels of my feet were cracking... eeeekkk!!! If you slide silk on it, I'm sure it'll get stuck. Not sexy! That's when I knew that I've been neglecting my feet.

A few weeks ago, I was cleaning some parts of our house and I found a couple of tubs of Glysolid Glycerin cream from Saudi Arabia (my uncle works there and he always gives us this). Hmmmmm... why not try this? I thought to myself.

Glycerin is a humectant which means it keeps stuff moist. If you use this, it quickly restores softness, smoothness and elasticity of the skin. The active ingredients in Glysolid are Glycerin (skin softener) and Allantoin (stimulates skin cell regeneration and the healing of small injuries, scrapes and minor burns).

ACCORDING TO THE PACKAGING:
Glysolid is the advanced European formula that helps to smooth, soften and protect rough, chapped and extra dry skin on the hands, feet and entire body. With Allantoin and a high Glycerine content, this proven skin care cream greatly improves the look and feel of the dry skin in just one application. Non-greasy, Glysolid penetrates the skin in seconds and works for hours.

PACKAGING:
The cream is contained in a tin can which is easily deformed. Nothing special with its packaging.

INGREDIENTS:
Aqua, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Decyl Oleate, Ceteareth-12, Allantoin, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Ceteareth-20, Dimethicone, Silica, Parfum ( Coumarin, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Limonene, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Benzoate, Geraniol, Isoeugenol) 2-Bromo-2 Nitropropane-1, 3 Diol, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

SCENT:
The smell is like that of a baby powder.

SIZES:
80 ml
110 ml
125 ml
250 ml

PRICE:
I don't know since our supply is just given by my uncle but I did a bit of research and turns out that it's priced at around 250php online for the 110 ml.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
Apply a thin film on the dry skin sparingly. I also cover this up with socks overnight and I wake up with baby-smooth feet.

WHAT I LIKE:
  • Glycerin in Glysolid is vegetable-based.
  • It's cheap when bought in Middle East countries.
  • Instantly softens the skin.
  • Healed my cracked heels and is also good for removal of calluses.
  • Mild scent.
  • Non- greasy.
  • A little product goes a long way.
  • There's a manufacturing and an expiry date.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
  • A bit messy to apply.
  • Unhygienic due to scooping out of the product from the tin can using your hands if you don't have a spatula or scoop.
  • Can be a bit sticky if you put too much.
  • Cannot be found easily in the market.

MY RATING: 9/10

New Blogger?

I just got off my daily conversation with The Boyfriend and at 1 AM PI time, I should be snuggled up in my bed right now and just enjoy the cozy night (the rain is like a magnet to my bed). But here I am, still trying to organize my thoughts and put it into a blog post.

"Make a blog post today!" has been playing on my mind the whole day while I was out and about, doing my thing. Our last topic, with The BF, was about stepping up my game with blogging (he's that supportive). One thing about me is that whenever I put my mind on something, nobody or nothing can stop me from doing it (Anybody here whose astrology sign is Leo???). Sometimes I'll try to persuade myself, "just do it tomorrow. you've plenty of time" but it never works; I practically suffer from insomnia the whole freaking night because ideas flood my brain. So yes, doing it is the best way to save myself from torture and mental agony.

Anyway....

I was mentally sorting through products that I wanted to do a review while I was running to and fro the grocery store isles (talk about multitasking) this afternoon; however, I couldn't make up my mind! The moment I got home, I immediately did my evening chores/routine so I could check out some beauty and lifestyle blogs for inspiration. I was impressed on how the blogging industry in the Philippines has become at par with the international ones; I could tell from the aesthetics of the blog as well as the content were mostly (I would say 95%) "professional" A.K.A. of brands and advertorials. I think I went through at least twenty blogs but it seemed that I haven't found 'something'.

Call me old fashioned but I still enjoy reading or seeing videos (on YouTube) about a certain event of that blogger's life or personal musings---no matter how trivial it may seem to be. There's just this element of realness that is so appealing to me (and to a few thousands more), it gives a raw connection between the blogger and his/her reader. It's knowing that this person that I've been following, have looked up to is just like me; had her heart broken, runs errands but actually left her wallet at home, is a sucker for some old Britney Spears or Backstreet Boys. There's nothing wrong with sponsored posts or advertorials though because, girl, we all need some moolah (money)!

To wrap this musing, here's my unsolicited advice to budding bloggers or those that are contemplating on joining the bandwagon---write about what you love and know. It'll help in getting you started in the industry and this is what will keep you going when all else fails. It's all about passion, baby! Let your blog be your voice in the vast world of the web, so write from the heart! If you want to write about your family, go ahead. If you want to write about Star Wars, go ahead. If you want to write about your 3 AM trip to McDonald's because you craved for a double cheese burger, go ahead. And of course, even if you're writing  a sponsored post, still write with your heart in it.

There's only one YOU in this world, be proud and strut it! *wink*
